“There was also another good reason why Raine headed initially to California: there were more murderers to study than there were at home.”
Great map of ATM robberies down Manhattan ..
“The Prince of Wales can no more walk silently past a set of plans drawn up by a modernist architect than a labrador can walk past a lamppost without stopping to cock his leg. When he caught sight of Richard Rogers’s designs for the £3 billion redevelopment of Chelsea Barracks, he used the Old Prince’s Network to bend the ears, over tea at Clarence House, of the Prime Minister of Qatar, chairman of the Qatari investment company that was co-funding the scheme, and of the Emir of Qatar. And was then outraged when his intervention came to light,” the paper quips.”

Great interactive graphic. Forget the infographic crap.
First week of my final semester at SVA. Where is my thesis now?
The last semester of thesis work has clarified my direction quite a bit. It’s come a long way from the vague “fighting political apathy” to a statement that’s much more concrete. I am focusing on:
1. How to use data visualizations and social networks to show people the brokenness of our campaign finance system.
2. Drawing attention to proposals and bills that address campaign finance reform.
Essentially, I want to use design to make Lawrence Lessig and the RootStrikers’ work more accessible and available to people.
Where to go from here? It looks like I will take my interaction design and code skills, and dive into the world of computer assisted reported. I’ve already begun to dig around in campaign finance data, and learning about the intricacies of data wrangling. I’ve started to build prototypes of interactive visualizations, which I should really start putting online soon.
Four more months. Here we go.
“Google Glass, like the Segway, is what happens when Silicon Valley spends too much time talking to itself. Maybe that’s even overstating the case: The rhetoric around Google Glass is what happens when important tech people spend a little too much time congratulating each other.”
